Rutter's generously donated $5,000 to UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in York to assist patients who struggle with transportation costs for their appointments.

The donation will fund gas cards that will be available for UPMC Hillman Cancer Center patients as needed. Patients can redeem the cards at any Rutter's location.

"Many of our patients have frequent or even daily appointments, whether in the office, in radiation oncology, or in the infusion center," said Michelle Laughman, practice manager at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center. "We've had patients share their struggle to afford transportation, and we greatly appreciate this donation from Rutter’s that will help ease that burden for our patients."

"At Rutter’s, we love giving back to our communities each and every year to support those in need," said Chris Hartman, Rutter’s director of fuels, forecourt and advertising. “In 2019, we were able to give over $1.1 million to local charitable organizations and expect to exceed that in 2020.”

An often-overlooked barrier to health care, transportation to appointments is a crucial step in giving patients access to the care they need.
