The UPMC Pinnacle Foundation’s goal for the 1st Annual Day of Gratitude was to collect as many incredible stories and words of thanks from UPMC of Central Pa patients as possible — to share life-changing generosity that helps spark courage and strength and reminds us why our caregivers are so important. It has been a challenging time for doctors, nurses, frontline workers, and staff, and it is impossible to overlook the power of gratitude, positivity, and encouragement.

The walking trail at UPMC Carlisle has always been the place for staff, patients, and community members to escape reality for a short while and enjoy the quiet of nature. UPMC Pinnacle Foundation Major Gifts Officer Michelle Loomis, who serves UPMC Carlisle and their staff, soon came to realize there was a need in her community she could address. The trail, while calm and simple, was in dire need of some sprucing up. As such, Spruce Up Your Stroll, a community wellness initiative aiming to enhance the patient, staff, and overall community experience at UPMC Carlisle was born.

The Farley family has always had a presence in Hanover, even before patriarch Ernie Farley opened Farley’s Jeweler’s in 1983. Son Erik Farley took over after Ernie retired and he, along with the Farley's staff, continue to do business in the tight-knit Hanover community.

June 17, 2020, a date former CBS 21 News Anchor Robb Hanrahan and his family will never forget. He had been on air that day and had been out of breath and in some measure of pain. He awoke that evening from a vivid dream, a dream he had severely blocked arteries leading to his heart, a dream that turned out to be a prediction of the future. The pain led him to an ambulance, then to the UPMC Harrisburg ER where he suffered a massive heart attack that stopped his heart more than once.
